Turkey research links tryptophan to mood and memory
New findings in Brain Behavior and Immunity suggest low tryptophan may impair memory and lower mood, while turkey’s sleepiness blamed on carbohydrates rather than tryptophan alone. Maastricht University researchers depleted tryptophan in 27 subjects, noting reduced serotonin and poorer word recall, with mood dips more common in those with a family history of low mood.
