American and Eastern maintain plans for a merger after CAB examiner Ralph L. Wiser recommended against it, citing monopoly risks. The five member CAB will review and report to President Kennedy as Delta opposes the plan. November 30 deadline looms for withdrawal.
Lawrence students from the University travel to Independence Missouri on Friday December 7 for a yearly visit to the Harry S Truman Library. Assistant dean Clark Doan says meeting with Truman is possible but not yet confirmed. The tour is co hosted by the campus People to People industrial tour program and the University.
Gov. John Anderson accused the state Board of Health of overstepping authority by not renewing the Lansing prison hospital license. A penal advisory commission recommended a new state prison hospital in Topeka after studying the issue. WIBW Topeka disclosed a report noting unlicensed inmate workers performed much medical and dental work at the facility.
Hank’s Delivery Service bought a warehouse and office at 304 Locust St from Brown Realty Co. The sale takes effect Dec 1. The firm, started by Henry F. Lickteig in 1949 with Kenneth W. Gray becoming a partner in 1958, offers local and cross country moving.

A federal judge noted alleged use of regular Gestapo methods by the Air Force as it charges airman Gerald M. Anderson with murder after release by a state court. Anderson, 24, of San Diego, was at Mountain Home AFB when accused of killing Nancy J. Johnson and her 2-year-old son Danny in April. The judge delayed ruling until December 5 on Air Force jurisdiction and possible release. civil rights investigators planned review.
Ex Queen Wilhelmina, who after declaring Indonesia equal under the crown, abdicated in 1948 in favor of Juliana following her golden jubilee. She retired and retained the title of Princess Wilhelmina as Indonesia moved toward independence in 1949 and seized Dutch businesses in the dispute over New Guinea.
President Kennedy names Budget Director David E. Bell as administrator of the Agency for International Development. Kermit Gordon moves from Budget Bureau to replace Bell, with Frank Coffin interim until Bell assumes post in December. Gordon, 46, is Williams College economics professor.
Petitioners were not told a new metered taxi fee would be part of costs. A percentage fee has long been charged but future petitions must spell it out. The city allows sale of two lots near Lawrence Memorial Hospital with the manager to negotiate. All other agenda items and minutes were approved. China's foreign minister Chen Yi stated at an Albanian reception in Peking that Chinese troops who invaded India would begin withdrawing on December 1. The move would see forces retreat to positions 20 kilometers behind the line of actual control from November 7, 1959.

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools kept Mississippi state colleges and universities fully accredited but warned the status could be revoked at any time. It placed the state under continued careful observation and said committees could be sent to Mississippi or the commission could be called into special session to act on accreditation. The action was approved unanimously by the 388 member delegate assembly.
