Ex-Gov Marland Dies in Comeback in Barrington Ill
Former West Virginia governor William C. Marland 47 died in Barrington after a comeback attempt amid heavy drinking and cancer. He had been found driving a taxi in Chicago last March and had spoken of seeking a better life. His widow Valerie said he died around 3 a.m. His career included the 1952 56 governorship and later service as executive secretary to James F Edwards at Waterford Park Race Track in West Virginia.
