Enormous Eighth Avenue Stable Fire in New York
A major blaze erupted before seven at the Eighth Avenue Horse Car stables in a four story brick building facing Eighth Avenue and Forty ninth and fifth streets. Firefighters saved stock and prevented wider damage. about 800 horses were involved, with over 100 ultimately destroyed. A wall collapse injured several firemen including Chief Campbell.
