A severe snowstorm swept across Kansas with blizzard conditions in western and north central areas. Wind gusts up to 40 mph reduced visibility to near zero while temperatures fell to 10 to 12 degrees below freezing. Eastern Kansas stayed above freezing with rain, helping drought relief.
South Korea announced it would not accept a truce arranged by the United Nations. President Syngman Rhee’s foreign minister said Korea’s future is none of others’ business and rejected Panmunjom negotiations. The stance comes as President Eisenhower prepares for a Korea visit and amid calls for liberating all Korea and a demilitarized zone in Manchuria.
George Meany, 58, chosen unanimously by the AFL executive council as president to succeed William Green. William F. Schnitzler was named secretary treasurer. The AFL reactivated a nine member committee to pursue merger talks with CIO, aiming to move discussions forward after years of stalled talks. Meany pledged cooperation with Eisenhower and emphasized efforts to raise living standards and combat Communism.
Senator Maybank said President Truman may end price and wage controls by executive order before January 3. The move follows Tighe Woods resignation as price stabilizer effective November 30 and adds pressure as Congress nears its January 3 turnover.
Six traffic accidents were reported in the city over two days due to bad weather. A request also covered 340 thousand for the State Soldiers Home at Ft Dodge, up from 303 thousand.
Nineteen of the Christian Rural Overseas Program team groups in Lawrence completed a house to house canvass, raising over $600. The rural drive aims for $3,400 to buy dried milk for the needy abroad, with Lawrence asked to raise about $1,150. George Forrester and Lawrence Leonhard reported $89.60 and $164.62, respectively, as totals for Kanwaka and Grant townships, while others finished or tracked progress on Monday.

Maj. James Jabara America's first jet ace will report to Camp Stoneham California on January 6 for a further assignment to the Far East Air Force. He requested combat duty to complete a normal tour after 63 missions with six Russian MiGs downed in spring 1952 before his recall to trainer duties.
Roland Flory a 16 year old Liberty Memorial High School junior was elected 1952 53 president of the Douglas County 4 H Council to lead more than 400 members across 18 clubs. Other officers named include Larry Craig secretary Jane Anderson treasurer Carol Gabbert and Dean Hadl as Palmyra reporter. The council planned a tractor maintenance school a rural electrification school and a fourth annual county basketball tournament with schedules to come.
Shoppers are reminded that virtually all Lawrence retail merchants will close their places of business all day this Thursday Thanksgiving Day. Most county state and federal offices will follow suit with no evening hours this week. Emergency services will maintain round the clock schedules.

Three Topeka residents Marion Wiley Cash 25 William E Cash 29 and Perna Paul Sullens 18 were arrested early Monday and returned to Topeka by Shawnee County authorities on grand larceny charges. They stole four truck tires and tubes two batteries and 15 gallons of gasoline from Douglas Construction Co and admitted thefts after being questioned.
Chinese Reds used a loudspeaker on a mountain position 312 miles northeast of Sniper Ridge to broadcast an invitation in Chinese and Korean urging South Korean troops to switch sides for promotions, food, and clothing. South Korean defenders responded with a heavy artillery barrage at the central front.
Brigades clash on central and western fronts as British Australian night raiders strike Red lines and Chinese troops. Allied infantry recaptured two key outposts near Jackson Heights at dawn while Red forces held side positions overnight. Gen. Clark met with top commanders in Tokyo as Eisenhower visit looms.

University of Kansas hosts a post season intramural women’s football classic between Pi Beta Phi and Kappa Alpha Theta at Mt. Oread fields. The series uses a two-team platoon system with average weights around 115 to 125 pounds. Coaches include Charlie Hoag and Gil Reich for the Pi Phis, with Theta leadership by Bob Mayer and Jim Potts aiding the Thetas. Farmers from nine states gather in Lawrence at 8:45 a.m. December 3 for the cornerstone laying of a 16 million nitrogen fertilizer plant built by Consumers Cooperative Association. Construction started on the 376 acre site east of Lawrence on Highway K-10. The event coincides with CCA’s annual Kansas City meeting December 1–3.
Official returns show Dwight D. Eisenhower carry Illinois by 443 407 votes. He polled 1 188 972 in Cook County and 1 268 354 downstate. Adlai Stevenson totaled 1 172 451 in Cook County and 841 466 downstate.
