In Topeka suburb, the home of S B Weaver was struck and damaged by lightning during a November storm. Weather officials note it is the first time in state history that a November storm produced enough lightning to cause damage.
In St Louis on November 25 the trial of Senator Morton of Kansas moved toward jury deliberation as defense argued lengthy addresses and the government faced pointed questions about witness credibility. Closing arguments emphasized missteps by the prosecution and the defense’s interpretation of key testimony. In Topeka, the Santa Fe system granted pay raises to locomotive passenger engineers on the Albuquerque to Let Pasuate division, with rates rising to 2.75 per hundred miles and equal divisions on adjacent routes.

Fire swept the Sadgwick block in Wichita last night causing heavy damage to a 210,000 building used as an apartment house. Women residents were overcome by smoke and rescued by firefighters.
Mrs. Francis Burton Harrison wife of New York’s former lieutenant governor was killed in an automobile accident in Long Island City. Mrs L I Scott of San Francisco was injured with fractured rib along with husband E T Scott and Charles T Crocker of New Haven and a chauffeur. The crash occurred from a steering gear break at high speed causing a sharp turn and the vehicle overturn. Mrs Harrison was the daughter of Charles Crocker of San Francisco.
Daring dash for liberty ends tragically with two dead and multiple wounded. Deputy warden Ro is hurt as four inmates seize control. Blake and Vaughan among those identified. Authorities investigate accomplices, seized weapons, and nitroglycerin, fearing a larger plot and further uprisings.

An official Russian dispatch from Shanghai reports Japanese forces occupied the Korean palace to compel Emperor to sign a treaty. Baron Hayashi and officials tried to persuade. secretaries obtained the ministry seal and the Japanese placed it on the document around 1:30 AM. Palace guard and gendarmes surrounded the emperor.
