Gov. Robert F. Bennett issued an executive order abolishing the 65 year retirement mandate for state workers. He urged evaluation based on ability and performance to retain experienced staff and directed aging officials to create a retirement counseling program for all employees.
Dennis Banks denounces H R 9054 proposed to end federal supervision of Indian lands as vicious and a path to land loss and cultural erasure. He launches a campaign against the measure, warning of possible future violence if passed. Banks cites coalition support from 25 California tribes and calls for alert to American citizens.
Merlin Johnston and Jeanne Warren, both Douglas County 4-H members, will close Clinton Dam gates at a 1 p.m. ceremony with Gov. Bennett and U.S. Army Corps official Richard Curl present. Officials say the event marks Clinton Lake’s present and future importance.
Acting state architect Carl Ossmann warns that scrapping the state architect's office for a seven member architectural commission would be a backward move. He cites reforms already underway, including plan reviews, a new accounting system, and tighter change order controls, as essential to efficiency.
