Two Kansas students stabbed at pledge party

Lincoln Montgomery 19 and Laverta A Murray 21 KU students were hospitalized in good condition after a 12:45 am Sunday stabbing at a fraternity pledge party at 1314 Oread Ave. Police are investigating motive, with no theft found. Fraternity Kappa Alpha Psi rented one room, not Foundation sponsored. Details include other weekend incidents: armed robbery at Our Place Cafe, liquor store break-in, vandalism, and property thefts.

LHS Orchestra and Choir Present Song of Democracy

Lawrence High School A Cappella Choir and orchestra will perform Song of Democracy during a Thanksgiving assembly at the school Wednesday. Choir director Gary Gregg and orchestra director Larry Williams will lead the program with a scripture reading and comments by drama instructor Millard Denny.

Eudoran Resident Wounded by Errant Shot

Eudora resident William Patridge received a minor head wound from a apparent .22 caliber shot while raking leaves in Mrs. Howard Decker’s yard. Decker heard a boom, saw Patridge fall, was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital with one stitch. Sheriff’s deputies continue investigation with no identified shooter.

Weekend Traffic Deaths Reach Seventeen Across Kansas

Seventeen people died on Kansas roads during a brutal weekend with eleven deaths on Saturday and six on Sunday. Notable losses include Daniel F. Bellinger 78 and his wife Gladys 74 of Emporia and Myrtle A. Pinson 75 of Ope, all returning from church when their car left a gravel road and crashed.

Lawrence Traffic Backs KU Basketball Ticket Sale and Holiday Break

Officers noted several may be two or three auto accidents on the Kansas Turnpike after the Kansas Missouri game but none were serious as about 50 500 fans moved smoothly. The city opens sale of Cable Tickets for KU home games at the Community Building 11th Street across from city hall for 1 dollar to 4th through 9th graders. Tickets cover six contests including Marshall Wisconsin Murray State Oklahoma and Oklahoma State with Rip City returning as KU fight song debuts at halftime. A five day Thanksgiving holiday begins 5 30 pm Tuesday for KU students with residence halls closed Wednesday morning through Sunday noon and classes resuming Monday morning.
