State Rep. John D. Bower of McLouth remains in satisfactory condition at Jefferson County Hospital Winchester after his right leg was amputated below the knee from a farm accident Tuesday morning. The 54 year old chairman of the Kansas House Education Committee was pulled free from a corn picker by about 10 men aided by two cutting torches. He is awake, able to talk and reading mail, and is reported to be recovering well.

Patricia Ann Conway a 22 year old West Chester State College junior died from second and third degree burns after pouring gasoline on her clothing and setting herself on fire on campus. Police reported she bought gasoline last Sunday and gave only personal reasons for the act.
