Mrs Pa T Solander addressed the Woman's City Club at Eldridge Hotel on war era issues tariffs and postwar reform. She urged voting women to study government, support uniform laws child welfare and education, and protect workers while stressing democracy and civic responsibility.
Wednesday features luncheon bridge hosted by Mrs WW Olmstead and Mrs Iiaink Ts at the tea room. Recurring activities include duplicate whist, bridge clubs, a Custerngon bridge gathering, and a faculty reception. Additional events list Gamma Alumnae, Episcopal Guild supper, Imperial luncheon honoring Mabel Schaeffer, and a Friday Harpy Hour.
Mrs Y J Dalton and daughter George H Buecking from Kansas City visit the Dalton home to attend a senate recital by Mrs Dalton and Mrs Olin BeeRuck of Topeka. A Topeka Parent-Teacher meeting at the school includes a solo, a seventh grade play, and other activities. Various clubs host luncheons, bazaars, and dinners with local residents attending.
Made 500 Arrests for twelve featured the Thanks giving turks. Jerry Stugare of Alamo and Miss Glad Cook of Tonganoxie were one of the club. Guest prizes went to Miss Cook and the club prize to Mrs A BR Reed. The luncheon by the women of Trinity Episcopal church has been postponed. The Quincey Parent Teacher Association will meet tomorrow at 3 o'clock with an address on Books for Children. The third grade under Miss Esther La Plant will present a health play. Eight children from the grade will perform as fairies. Mothers of the fourth and fifth grade pupils will serve refreshments with Mrs FP Harwood in charge. The Henry Hour club meets Friday at 2 at Mrs Heatherington's. The Merry entertained at Walnut Street. The Midland Rural club holds an all day meeting at Mrs Sterling's to quilt for the hospice. No Hustess session. On Thursday November 7 the club met at Mrs Carl Bruckeral with seventeen members and guests. Rollball items contests were conducted by Mrs H.
Oread Training School emphasizes leadership and responsibility as Ed Milton Belles outlines the school policy. A nine week education week program showcased student senates, the Dread Sextet, glee club, honor rolls, cheer leaders, and the election of a student treasurer led by Minnie Clock as senate representative.
The annual firemen's ball was announced today by the agent in charge. Fred Piece Orchestra will provide music for the event. Proceeds from the dance will support the firemen and their activities.
Paul Ingalls is chairman of the dance committee in which all the firemen will serve, directing preparations for an upcoming community event and coordinating volunteers.
Rev. W Backus left for Independence Iowa to attend his sister Aurelia Backus's death and will return Friday. Mrs J F Stephenson spent the day in Kansas City with her mother. Glenn Bailey and Glenn Campbell visited Kansas City. Mrs John Monteith motored to Kansas City and will stay overnight. Mrs Fred Morris and Mrs Ed Blevins also spent time in Kansas City Shawnee. Ellen Johnson visited Topeka yesterday afternoon and evening.
Birth certificates filed with Floyd Lawrence show seven newborns this week: John Edward Harris in Lawrence, Prescott Underwood in Lawrence, Betty Lon Olmstead in Lawrence, Arthur August Rody in Lawrence, Denise Ryan in Bonner Springs, Troy Jack Eisner in Eudora, and Betty Jean Fredman in Eudora. All births occurred at Memorial Hospital or Simmons Hospital in late November and September.

Funeral for Joe McCustin of Oklahoma City held in Oskaloosa with survivors Mary McCaslin and daughters Emily and Dorothy. Judge Oscar Raines in town for business. Tri Mu class held Thanksgiving party at Presbyterian church on November 9.

Monday and Tuesday saw several visits and meetings in Gardner. Rev. Osear Thompson attended a pastors conference in Tonganoxie. The Thompsons and children visited the J. M. White home Sunday evening. L. L. Weber and family noted visits with Gladys and husband. Other locals include Oscar Thompson family at Elroy Parker’s Friday, Fern Andrew with Verle Davis near DeSoto, John Pine with Ralph Pine in Bonner Springs, Lon Reams and in law en route to the Royal Stock Show in Kansas City.
Four members of the Snoblette high school football team in Kan. are ill with influenza as measles and scarlet fever threaten further inroads. The gridiron season is declared over and a planned game with Tyrone Oklahoma was called off. Officials say the influenza is not alarming with several measles and scarlet fever cases reported.
