KU Endowment leads bid for renewal area redevelopment
The KU Endowment Association has acquired most residential property north of 39th Avenue in a wide block from Rainbow Boulevard to Cambridge Street. The J A Tobin Construction Company on Rainbow Boulevard is the largest privately owned site slated for a school park shopping center and apartments. The project area houses 662 families with an estimated 285 displaced plus 71 others. Upon completion more than 1,000 dwelling units are planned and an agreement with Kansas City officials and its renewal agency is expected to be signed December 7. The city plans a park border streets and sewers to serve the area.
