Gambling Stamp List Mailed by Ferguson to Kansas Counties
Attorney General William M. Ferguson mailed lists of $250 federal gambling stamp holders to Kansas county attorneys. Douglas County lists 10 licensees as of last July. Ferguson said 317 stamps had been purchased by Kansas operators using coin operated devices legal federally, while Kansas law bans gambling in any form. Rally Friday Planned for KU Gridders Sendoff

Medal Winner To Speak Here At Lawrence Banquet
Lt. Col. Lewis L. Miller, Medal of Honor recipient and leadership instructor at Fort Leavenworth, will speak at a 7 p.m. banquet today at the Masonic Temple, 1001 Mass. The event, sponsored by Lawrence Scottish Rite Bodies, honors Miller who earned the Medal for actions Feb 7 1951 near Soam Ni Korea. He led a company under heavy fire, was wounded but refused evacuation until the position was secure. He also served with the Royal Canadian Army in 1941 and joined the U S Army Air Corps in 1942, with campaigns in North Africa and Italy. Miller holds the Purple Heart and Bronze Star. FE A Pontius presides at the dinner served by Adah Chapter No 7 Order of the Eastern Star. The Sweet Adelines will sing.

Shanahan backs township split to speed vote counts
Secretary of State Paul Shanahan urged dividing Eudora Township for the next general election due to its size and long counts. He said more than 900 votes overwhelmed one precinct and Douglas County should pass a resolution to create at least two voting sites. Commissioner Walter Kampschroeder supported the idea. Stolen Car Recovered. Driver Arrested Near Lawrence
A car stolen from the Vermont Street city lot was found at the Highway 24 32 junction the same afternoon by Lawrence police. The driver, 18 year old William John Saupe of Edison New Jersey, living in Tonganoxie, was arrested. The owner Billy Vantuyl reported the car unlocked with keys in the ignition. his son Danny 17 rammed the vehicle to halt the driver. Police set a roadblock and Saupe was captured about five miles northeast of Lawrence. Damages from the ram were about 500 dollars.
