Indeterminate Sentences Handed Down by District Court
The district court sentenced several prisoners after conviction at the present term. Carl Howard and Gerald Leighton received indeterminate terms for attempted entry at Carl's store, with Howard going to the penitentiary and Leighton to the reformatory. Willie Fisher was given an indeterminate sentence to the reformatory for auto theft, and Paul Weeks received an indeterminate sentence to the state prison for auto theft. Norman Reed, convicted of stealing books, drew an indeterminate sentence to the penitentiary. Tom Wright of Topeka got sixty days in jail and $100 fines on each count for prostitution and transportation of liquor. Clifford Sharp faced similar penalties for possession and transportation of liquor. A jury found Willie Fischer guilty of auto theft in a Chrysler car case, and Wright was found guilty of driving a car while intoxicated in a separate case after lengthy deliberations. Archie Level, colored, was found guilty of possessing and trading liquor and received an indeterminate sentence.

Three Die in Coal Oil Explosion at Sporia Kansas
Everett Dryden aged 25 and his two infant daughters Ruby Elizabeth 3 and Evelyn 14 months died from burns suffered last night when a coal oil fire exploded in a living room stove. Dryden tried to roll in grass to smother the flames and rushed back into the hall to save the children but was unable to carry them out. Mrs Dryden also suffered severe burns while attempting to help.

Lower Tariff No Aid for Farmers Says President
AP dispatch reports President Coolidge at the White House stated that reducing tariffs would not aid agriculture. He noted he has not had time to study a commission headed by Charles Naehl suggesting tariff and railroad rate revisions to help farmers buy and transport goods more cheaply. Lawrence Grocery proprietor dies in car fire crash
RC NANCE URN re RC. Nance a Lawrence Grocery store proprietor of 6251 Massachusetts street burned to death around 9 o'clock this morning northwest of Midland on high 3W when a Ford crashed and burst into flames. The driver was trapped. identification came from personal effects found on the body. Mrs Nance identified as widow. Neighbors and tourists tried to help as the car burned, but only partly saved. Nance had lived in Lawrence and vicinity for thirty years. Local officers investigated the scene and the ambulance took the body to the undertaker at 8:55.
