A massive gas tank explosion in Snerch Pennsylvania releases a fireball and destroys buildings across a one mile square area. Death toll rises to twenty one with hundreds injured as fire crews, police, and volunteers search wreckage and wounded victims are treated at Presbyterian and Mercy hospitals.
Hospital reports list Paul Mundeski his wife and four children among the injured. Mrs T E Mullen and her 11 months old twin sons James and William are also cited as injured. Rescue teams struggle hours after the blast to reach the center of the wrecked district where the City Asphalt plant sits and about 15 employees are reported killed or injured.
Alvin Greenwaldt 38 Mount Horeb Wisconsin and Arthur Poetzold 24 St Paul Minnesota pleaded guilty to first degree murder in the strangling of Mrs Greenwaldt and were sentenced to life imprisonment by Circuit Judge C M Davison in Milwaukee. Sheriff Alvin Redford said they would be moved to Wanpun State Prison within 24 hours of their confessions.
George Remus the Chicago druggist and former lawyer appears in Hamilton County Court to face a first degree murder charge for the slaying of his estranged wife Imogene Remus last October. Remus, jailed, enters with a defense plan to claim temporary insanity driven by his wife's alleged betrayal and the Bootleg syndicate exposure involving Franklin L. Dodge Jr. The scene includes reporters and supporters as the high profile trial opens.
Tom Wright of Toneka was found guilty in justice court on two liquor related charges and this afternoon was tried in district court for possession of liquor and driving intoxicated. Evidence included bottles and jugs of altered liquor seized after his Ford left the road near Kaniwaka on September 2.
An army airplane carrying R. B. Sleight, secretary to Secretary Hoover, crashed at the Montpelier flying field. Sleight died at Heaton hospital. The pilot survived with injuries not reported.

Mexico City dispatch reports General Alysso Obregon, Mexico's sole presidential candidate, narrowly escaped an assassination attempt during a revolt. Bombs were thrown at his automobile, with three assailants firing bullets. Obregon sustained only slight injuries and credited leaning away from shattered glass for his safety.
Crowds lined the White House paths as aviators gathered for a luncheon with President and Mrs. Coolidge. Col Lindbergh prepared to receive the Hubbard Medal amid a vast turnout including Ruth Elder and other notable flyers. Elder anticipated meeting Lindbergh, whose voyage inspired her own Atlantic flight.
The Lawrence Grocery at 623 Massachusetts Street suffered smoke damage after a basement blaze yesterday afternoon in stacked empty boxes. Reported by T C Allen of Victory Garage across the street, the fire reached only the basement and upper floors remained intact. Losses and insurance estimates were not yet determined.
Washington officials report William J. Burns and his son W Sherman Burns were allowed to recount their side to the federal grand jury investigating the Tea Pot Dome oil jury tampering case. They aim to explain charges that Burns men fabricated testimony to trigger a mistrial in the Sinclair matter, with the elder Burns offering little comment after meetings with district attorneys.
The Ka state agriculture board reports slow winter wheat growth with late seeded fields still ungerminated or too dry for sprouting. Grasshopper damage eased by recent frosts. Hessian fly noted. A general rain would aid seed wheat in the western half of the state.
Fire crews responded Saturday to chimney blaze at F H Reynolds route 4 with little damage. A transformer at 821 Massachusetts street failed, repaired without harm. Sunday a basement fire at W R Stiner on the north fort to fort highway caused minor damage. Sunday noon a burning motorcycle at Sixth and Kentucky streets was extinguished.

Amelita Galli Curci, noted soprano, will debut in Lawrence Wednesday night at 8:20 for the KU concert series in the University substellum. Assisting will be pianist Homes Samuels and flutist Manuel Belret. Evans and Salter of New York City handle schedules. A block of 41 tickets was sold Saturday to Ottawa music lovers. A complimentary souvenir program with auditorium pictures and 25-year concert history will be issued by the Journal-World with Laurence merchants. The program includes Mozart, Zemire et Azor, Debussy, Chopin, and Bellini pieces. There is an intermission after the Debussy selections. Weather forecast: cold.
Rain or snow is forecast for the western portion of the state after a cold front moved in this morning. Observers reported a low temperature around 20 in Dodge City and 36 in another area, with stiles showing cloudy or rainy conditions. No moisture had fallen in Kansas yet, while a meteorologist noted above normal temperatures in the south and west regions.
The RCA received a radiogram from the Ne De France at 10:50 AM reporting a white airplane travelling very high overhead. The French captain said the plane was moving west northwest at about 100 miles south southwest of Sable Island, with ship’s position given as 42.22 N, 61.05 W.
Topeka AP Gov Paulen approved paroles for 56 inmates from the State Reformatory at Hutchinson, following a November Board of Administration recommendation. Among those paroled was Harry Boyle from Douglas County for car theft. The skid of notices also mentions veteran salesman Lockhart, said to be the oldest traveling salesman in the United States, who died after 69 years on the road.
Local Red Cross faces a shortfall in volunteers with 36 to 40 percent turnout and nine days left in campaign. Dr A Langston urges residents to join as workers and provide time for road calls. First District reports high district participation, while university drive organizes student committees and registration sites across Fraser Hall and various clubs.

Washington November 14 Senator Smoot chairman of the senate finance committee indicated he favors a tax reduction held to 225 million dollars after a White House call. He suggested expenditures could adjust to allow a slightly larger cut but warned of large winter needs for various projects. The tentative $225 million figure reflects cautious budgeting amid pressing federal needs.
A lengthy institute brought 225 attendees from across the county to Lone Star for a two day event featuring talks by Frank G. Richard and Miss Minnie Stokebrand on church school administration youth leadership and children's departments. The gathering included four class periods two public addresses musical performances and a noon dinner.
