Pavilion Lets Eight Courts Host Large Events Up To 20 Days
The Lawrence City Commission narrowly approved allowing all eight basketball volleyball courts at the Sports Pavilion to be used for large events up to 20 days a year with free play at other centers if a tournament closes. Mayor Amyx and Vice Mayor Soden dissented citing promises of free play. Officials say the policy aims to boost revenue while preserving facility access and attracting big tournaments, though critics warn about cost data gaps and long term funding.
