Judge orders release of White House wiretap memos
U S District Judge Henry Kennedy Jr. orders the Justice Department to produce White House legal memos detailing the legal basis for the post September 11 warrantless wiretap program by November 17. The judge will review privately to assess attorney client privilege and national security concerns prior to any public release. The case stems from 2005 lawsuits by civil liberties groups after disclosures of NSA spying on calls between the U S and suspected terrorists.
