Hy-Vee plans Lawrence store and new Mission prototype

Hy-Vee Food Stores confirmed plans for a Lawrence supermarket as part of a staggered expansion in the Kansas City area. Commission candidate disputes flier’s message

Lawrence firefighter suffers burns battling grease fire

Amos Hale, 49, received first degree facial burns while aiding at a basement grease fire on Ridge Court. He was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after the Sunday incident around 4 30 p m. The blaze began when food ignited on a stove. damage amount was undetermined.

Acting director named to Douglas County Corrections post

Elaine Hicks, 33, was named the Douglas County Community Corrections director by the county commission today. Hicks has led as acting director since June after Mark Matese resigned to enter private business. She aims to expand employment and education programs for clients and seek more court-directed admissions while preparing for the state audit. Hicks, a Purdue graduate and Merillville native, joined the county in 1987 as an intensive supervision probation officer.

Seifert’s Coat Drive Seeks Donated Garments

Seiferts at 821 Mass launches a Call for Coats through November 14. Customers trading in coats in good repair receive 20 dollars off a new coat under 200 dollars or 30 dollars off a coat over 200 dollars. Coats for women men and children are requested and will be distributed via United Way agencies. Seiferts, part of a Cedar Rapids chain of 160 stores in 20 states, partners with local charities.
