City suspends shelter funding over audit delay

Lawrence officials halted part of the shelter’s 2017 funding after the agency failed to submit a required 2016 audit by September 18. Shelter leaders said audits are delayed by scheduling and information-gathering issues, with a goal to complete the filing by mid November for IRS requirements.

Topeka men face multiple charges in gun case

Dominique J. McMillon, 19, of Topeka, is charged with aggravated assault and battery against Robert Wheeler. Ahmad Rayton, 22, of Topeka, faces attempted second-degree murder for shooting Royelle Hunt in the leg and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Roberts plans to hire his own lawyer but has no attorney of record yet.
