A Kansas based Crosscheck computer system promoted by Secretary of State Kris Kobach as a fraud prevention tool faces a federal lawsuit and a new academic study claiming high error rates. Developed in 2005, Crosscheck links voter data from participating states using first and last names, birth dates, and last four SSN digits to flag potential duplicates.
The city of Lawrence is withholding 46000 dollars in 2017 funding from the Lawrence Community Shelter after officials asked for but did not receive the shelter's 2016 financial audit. Journal-World inquiries prompted disclosure. The shelter fired executive director Trey Meyer, a move officials say is unrelated to the funding issue.
Colombia’s Juan Manuel Santos, a University of Kansas alumnus, visited Lawrence and spoke at the Lied Center about his Nobel Prize and hopes for peace in Colombia. He told a crowd of about 400 that his next steps aim to solidify a peace settlement.

Danny W. Queen of Eudora pleaded not guilty to one count of first degree murder and two counts of attempted first-degree murder in the fatal shooting outside a Eudora bar. Judge Peggy Kittel scheduled a jury trial for April 2 to 6, 2018 after earlier binding over for trial.
