Baker student helps save man from fire in Baldwin City
Baker University student Brandon Keller and a neighbor helped rescue an elderly man from a duplex fire at 204 Crimson Ave in Baldwin City on Memorial Day. Fire officials said the blaze damaged half the duplex but all occupants and a dog escaped uninjured. Keller, who will start volunteering as a firefighter June 5, said he was not a hero, but helped save a life.

Baldwin City man accused of raping two girls
A 54 year old Baldwin City man was arrested on suspicion of rape indecent liberties with a child and aggravated criminal sodomy in Douglas County. Police say two Baldwin City girls known to the suspect were raped over several years with one now 18. Investigators will interview victims again before forwarding paperwork to the DA. The man is jailed on 125000 bond.

Two armed robberies reported in Lawrence within a week
Lawrence police reported two more armed robberies on Sunday raising the week’s total to three. The 2300 block of Naismith Drive saw two men robbed at gunpoint around 6:45 p.m., while at 9:28 p.m. three men robbed a residence on Emery Road, with minor injuries to a resident.
