Japanese glassblower at KSU creates Columbus ships in glass
Mitsugi Ohno, a native Japanese glassblower at Kansas State University, is crafting glass replicas of Columbus three ships the Nina Pinta and Santa Maria in his campus lab. The Santa Maria stands 29 inches tall with a 29 by 8 inch hull. He started in August and has about 450 hours invested. He uses 1 40 scale blueprints from Barcelona's Martino Museum and has survived accidental blueprint fires with copies still usable. Ohno has also produced glass White House Independence Hall and USS Constitution replicas displayed nationwide.
