Long life electronic bulb unveiled in Columbus

In Columbus at an Edison Electric Institute event, Intersource Technologies outlined a radio signal driven bulb claiming 10 to 20 year life and lower heat. The $10 to $20 device uses a magnetic coil to emit a glow via a plasma and fits most sockets, but price and compatibility may hinder adoption.

KPS Imposes Rate Increase On Kansas Gas Bills

Kansas Public Service raises average residential gas bill by about 1.93 monthly or 23.16 yearly to fund an 11 year pipeline replacement project as approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission in a settlement. The raise, subject to flex down for large industrial users, expires no earlier than 1994.

Sallie Mae plans office expansion in former All-Star Dairy

Sallie Mae the Student Loan Marketing Assn will anchor a new office complex in the former All-Star Dairy building at Second and McDonald Drive. Elaine Nelson says a 16,000 square foot lease is signed as the 55,000 square foot dairy plant is converted for multiple tenants including Sallie Mae. The move is slated for early September after remodeling, with Star Group L.L.C led by Bo Harris and partners purchasing the building from Mid-American Dairymen Inc. The Lawrence loan servicing center, largest of five, services about 700,000 loan accounts and processes around $60 million in monthly payments, employing roughly 550 people.
