KU Wins 11.3 Million Grant for Women’s Health Data Center
The University of Kansas received an 11.3 million federal grant from the National Institutes of Health to create a biomedical research center. The project will use big data and machine learning to study why certain diseases and health disparities affect women more than men and to guide future research across chemistry psychology sociology and public affairs. Heather Desaire will direct the center, with new hires in chemistry sociology and psychology.

Officers carry Torch Run for Special Olympics Kansas
Lawrence and Douglas County law enforcement agencies joined the annual Law Enforcement Torch Run to support Special Olympics Kansas. Runners from Lawrence Police Department Douglas County Sheriff's Office KU and Baldwin City police took part carrying the Flame of Hope across Douglas County. The route covered about 5.5 miles ending outside Ottawa before the Franklin County leg begins ahead of the Kansas Summer Games at Maize South High School May 31 to June 2.
