Lawrence Echoes from Rose Bushes and Local Sights
In Lawrence, Charles Louk reports counting 123 blooms on a Paul Scarlet rose bush in his yard. A youth dropped a quartz bottle of alcohol in the downtown business district, the bottle shattered as he exited a doorway, and he hurried inside. Carl Achning boasted of beating George Kuhne in a Lawrence Country Club putting contest, 4 and 3, despite banker bets. Sunday Lee Schwinley captured the largest turtle ever shot in Fritz Meyn's lake, over a foot wide, killed with a .22 rifle. A noted ad suggestion: Glenn Cunningham and Gene Venzke could save wear by presenting their standard rifle race on film.
