Sarah Rooney created Keepsake after noting Douglas County lacked youth bereavement groups. The Sunday program runs 1 to 5 PM at Midland Adult Day Health Center 319 Perry St. and is free for children aged 8 to 18, funded by a grant.
RSVP for a youth grief support group funded by local organizations including Visiting Nurses Hospice Midland Care Hospice and Rumsey Yost Funeral Home. Sarah Rooney, volunteer coordinator, says the program helps children realize they are not alone as they learn coping skills and create keepsake boxes while parents attend the first part.
Lawrence Memorial Hospital launches six week CLIMBing with Michelle sessions for children ages 6 through 11 affected by a parent’s cancer. Sessions run six weeks from June 3 one night weekly, 6 to 7 30 pm, focusing on feelings and coping with illness in a supportive peer group.
