Kansas School Sessions Shortage Locked In Law
Supt Raymond Kent of Lawrence reports in The Kansas Teacher that only nine of seventy four Kansas cities meet the six hour day requirement for first and second class schools. The six hour standard is preserved by law, while hours range from four to over six, with eight cities at exactly six. Kent notes Kansas grade schools do not match averages in other states and that educators disagree on optimal session length.
