TTALIAN GAINS THE CHIEF WAR FEATURE DRIVE FOR TRIESTE ENTERS EIGHTEENTH DAY details unclear due to fragmented OCR but references a wartime feature and date progress toward an event in Trieste with eightteenth day noted.
Governor Capper named the state board of administration to oversee all state institutions and consolidate boards in control correction and administration. Dr Wilbur S N Mason President Baker University Charles Green former Kansas City Mayor E W Hoch ex Governor Marion will serve as members with salaries of 8200 for the board and 5000 for the state manager to be chosen later.
In an open letter printed in I Hommen diane Clemenceau asks President Wilson to send Colonel Roosevelt and his companions to France. He notes Roosevelt’s legendary influence and reports American units arriving at the front with the banner saluted, while a French poilu asks where Roosevelt is.
William McCoy and partner J W P Phipps are accused by government agents of trying to organize about 300 mountaineers to resist the draft act. The group allegedly planned to raid St Paul kill revenue agents and land owners and split the loot. A marriage license was issued in Douglas county to Reid Keiser and Ruby Neibes of Kansas City Missouri and they were later married.
The district court resumed sessions to hear civil cases after a two week recess. William Wellman’s motion for a new trial on non-support was overruled, with an offer to release on recognizance if he paid 10 dollars weekly for child support and he said he would appeal to the supreme court claiming lack of jurisdiction as a Missouri resident. Civil rulings included dismissals and quiet title judgment in several cases, with costs to be paid by losing parties.
Miss Leona Miller, director of domestic science, will present two illustrated canning lectures in the manual training building. The demonstrations will be Thursday at 10 and Friday at 3, inviting all women of Lawrence to attend. further talks may follow if interest remains high. An aggressive campaign targets Kansas high school graduates for the University of Kansas next fall. With most men over twenty one in military service, freshman enrollment remains expected to rise while older students depart. Letters to graduates urge education before service and recruiting officers are asked to aid the effort. Military training and technical courses like medicine and engineering will be emphasized.
University notices list final exam timing for one week including Monday through Friday sessions with three four five hour classes. Two hour and one hour classes have specific morning or afternoon time blocks and Wednesday memorial day closures noted. Also hearings on property assessments in Lawrence and registration for summer term at Fraser hall. Charles Geer of Albuquerque visits Fraser Oder family in Lawrence.
