Larned Correctional to become medium security facility
The Kansas Department of Corrections will convert Larned Correctional Mental Health Facility to a medium security prison this summer. About 150 mental health inmates will move to El Dorado Correctional Facility. Inmates slated for transfer are ages 18 to 25 with under three years left, and include those with high recidivism risk and low education. The move allows Larned to add programs with Barton Community College and frees capacity for El Dorado to expand.
