Graves backs regents on Pittsburg State probe

Gov. Bill Graves said he is concerned a former Pittsburg State University president used state funds for a private Thailand project with regents approval. Donald Wilson spent 18433 on travel and gave honorary degrees without proper authorization. the board and executive director Stephen Jordan are reviewing signatures and procedures as the Kansas Bureau of Investigation probes fundraising for an International University.

Landslide Keeps Moving On McDowell Creek Road Near Manhattan

A continuing landslide south of Manhattan damaged a quarter mile of McDowell Creek Road and resisted stabilization on Friday. Public works director Dan Harden noted the slide shifts west as wet weather persists. A temporary road will be built to aid residents once the area stabilizes, with about 700 truckloads of rock used to rebuild a river embankment. The Kansas River remains at 15.30 feet, below the 18 foot flood stage.
