Sunflower plant eyed for possible government reuse
MU proposes donating the former Sunflower site to government owners as surplus property. Hercules may reactivate powder production, risking incompatibility with an atom smasher. Sunflower, once the world’s largest ordnance powder plant, employed up to 25,000 during peak construction and operation, with 15,000 at peak in the 1940s. Current reactivation could bring 1,000 to 1,500 workers.
