Lawrence lawmaker sides with the bill on school funding
Highberger was the sole Lawrence area vote against the bill while Democrats and Republicans broadly supported it though with reservations. The plan raises base funding to 4006 next year and 4128 in 2018 19, adding about 183 million in new funding, with Lawrence district seeing roughly 3.1 million next year. Critics say funding remains inadequate to restore cut positions and meet district needs amid years of reserve spending and a 2015 funding overhaul.
