The west Harper barn at Second and Perry streets, built in 1920 by F. H. Harper and owned by George Harper of 2101 Massachusetts, is being razed to relocate streets for the Union Pacific underpass. The building, 70 by 115 feet, will clear space for Perry street extension to Lincoln street and traffic into the underpass. The contract is held by Joe McHugh, who plans a secondhand lumber yard on part of the site. The Thomas brothers formerly occupied the barn, while the Lawrence Sale company uses the east barn for weekly community auctions.
