Mormon Church Launches FamilySearch Genealogy Site Overloads
The Mormon church unveiled FamilySearch.org with access to 400 million names from as far back as 1500 and links to 4 000 other genealogy sites. IBM added a backup system as demand swamped servers, causing a six hour outage before resuming at about 500 hits a second. Church president Gordon B Hinckley framed the launch as a life changing contribution to family history.

China runs thousands of U.S. front companies for tech gains
A 700 page House committee report says China covertly controls thousands of U S front companies to obtain American technology for missiles and military aims.
