Hood Dermatone Pioneer Honored By Engineering Societies
The Padgett Hood Dermatone team developed a giant dermatone completed in 1953 capable of cutting skin grafts up to 15 by 8 inches with uniform thickness from 0.005 to 0.500 inches. The standard dermatone is globally used and credited with saving thousands of lives in fires explosions and war injuries. Hood also created gas engines gas explosive pumps drawing instruments an autographic device for film packs and a method for perspective layouts from aircraft sections. He belonged to Sigma Xi Tau Beta Pi Alpha and Tau Omega and received the American Society for Engineering Education distinguished service award in 1926.
