Evidence probe into cigarette packages at Lawrence continues
A KBI probe into 12 cigarette packages tied to a December raid at Lawrence PD extends into a second week. Assistant KBI Director Jack Ford said the agency's report is delayed to Wednesday or Thursday as interviews continue. FBI met with Police Chief Stanwix and Douglas County Attorney Berkowitz. Douglas County Bridge Name Request Clarified
Rudolf Dietz of Rt. 5 asked the Douglas County Commission to carve his name on a nearby bridge. He agreed to return the $350 county right of way payment, saying the request stems from land imbalance and not ego. A state and federal meeting on the Haskell Loop was postponed to later in the week.

Fire Call Near East Lawrence Turnpike Damages Two Cars
Firefighters report two vehicle fires near the East Lawrence exit of the Kansas Turnpike. A car owned by Raymond Wolford of Pennsylvania sustained 1200 dollars in damage from an undetermined origin around 430 PM Saturday. A second vehicle belonging to Earl Campbell at 9 AM Sunday suffered 75 dollars in damage from a fire of unknown origin.
