The Lawrence-Douglas County Planning Commission unanimously backed the Smart Code on an 8 0 vote with two members absent. The measure would allow for mixed residential types and neighborhood commercial sites and permit some development decisions to be staff approved. Washington woman Ramona Morgan faces a hit-and-run charge after two highway workers were killed and a third injured on U S Highway 59.
