Plum Island sale limited to conservation use by town vote
Long Island officials move to block development on Plum Island as the federal sale proceeds to defray the Kansas lab move. A 600 acre conservation zone would protect the eastern nature preserve while the former disease research site could host a university or other entity. A June vote is planned amid price concerns from developers and environmentalist support.
