Miss Dora Smith and Miss Jean, both of Minneapolis, left Wednesday for home after a brief visit at Dean George Baxter Smith's residence. They and Mrs. Smith returned Tuesday from a car tour of California visiting Los Angeles and San Francisco relatives. They stayed with Dr and Mrs Stuart Smith in Salt Lake City where Dr Smith interns. The trip included stops in Colorado Springs Taos Santa Fe Palo Verde.
Lawrence Superintendent Carl Knox will attend sessions in Kansas City Friday and Topeka Saturday on federal education policy. The Friday event, sponsored by the U S Office of Education, clarifies the 1965 Elementary and Secondary Education Act with about 40 Kansas officials at the Muehlebach Hotel. The Saturday meeting, hosted by the Kansas State Teachers Association and Federal Relations Commission, includes administrators teachers and board members with Knox on a panel. he becomes commission chair in June. A Lawrence Board of Education study of federal funds outlined Monday but awaits more information before formal recommendations.
