Mexico City ends 48000-strong rail strike with government aid
In May 19 reports President Lazaro Cardenas pressed a swift end to a 48,000 worker Great Mexican National Railways strike after they walked out for higher pay. Workers were recalled by noon, while the government warned of losing labor contract rights if they did not return within 24 hours. The administration cited a monthly pay distinction and supported railway management on rest days, though some leaders denounced the ruling as arbitrary and hinted at possible future actions.
