Kansas University Art Museum adds forty Imperial Series porcelain pieces from the Napoleon era to the William B. Thayer Memorial Collection. Valued tentatively at about 5000 dollars, the collection requires further appraisal by specialists in California and New York. The set mirrors the Napoleon I service and includes 28 plates and several large pieces. installation in the Ceramics Gallery will occur by month’s end for summer viewing.

Fourth Library Patron Fined in Overdue Case
Ken Hopkins of 1923 Clare Rd was fined 25 dollars in City Police Court this morning for overdue books at Lawrence Free Public Library. Ten dollars will be refunded when the material is returned. Ed Howard, city librarian, signed the complaint. A February ordinance underpins the prosecution after 45 days of warning. This is the fourth such case this year, following three fines of 15 dollars each.

Two KU Faculty Members Named Assistant Deans
Two Kansas University faculty members will fill new assistant dean posts. Dr. Robert W. Ridgway becomes assistant dean of the Education School effective July 1, and Dr. Robert P. Cobb becomes assistant dean of the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences effective June 1. Ridgway has led KU’s elementary education program since 1954 and will focus on full time administration while teaching some. Cobb will handle full time administrative duties in summer and teach English half time in spring and fall, becoming the College’s second assistant dean. Ridgway is a native of Emporia, educated at Baldwin and Baker University, with an KU M.S. He also served as Neo desha High principal before returning for a doctorate in education. Cobb earned a B.A. at Baylor, and M.A. and Ph.D. at Michigan University.

Gas House Occupants Await Return After Gasoline Leak
The Sidney Feldman family of 835 Highland Dr is waiting to move back into their home after gasoline fumes forced them to evacuate two weeks ago. Mrs Feldman remains hospitalized after giving birth April 30 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Fire Chief F C Sanders said the leak’s cause is still undetermined and tests by oil firms are ongoing.

City Planning Group Approves Final Plat for Country Club North
The City Planning Commission approved the final plat of a Country Club North Addition portion west of Hallmark Cards Co at City Hall. Zoning requirements will follow later after minor changes.
