Second Lt. Denzel R. Gibbons of Lecompton Kansas has logged 96 combat hours with the Jolly Rogers Liberator unit of Gen. George C Kenney's Fifth Air Force in New Guinea. He completed 15 missions since overseas deployment and earned his wings at Hondo Field Texas in 1943. Gibbons, a KU graduate, is navigational crew with five Hollandia air raids and a Biak strike described as the longest heavy bomber mission into Jap territory without escort. His brother Chester serves in the air corps at Tyndall Field Florida.

Exchange of prisoners as Gripsholm unloads mail parcels
Barcelona May 18 Nine hundred Americans and Britons exchanged for a similar number of Germans waited for the Gripsholm to unload about 1,600 Red Cross mail parcels for American prisoners of war in the Reich before their journey home. The ship was to stay until Friday to complete unloading. The exchange, begun yesterday, left 22 Germans interned in Barcelona. The Gripsholm then to stop at North Africa and the UK on return, likely arriving New York around June 10.
