Dead Wheat Fields Revived by Rain Across Kansas
Hutchinson May 18. Revived by generous rains central Kansas wheat fields once deemed dead show promise of yields this fall though most likely only four to five bushels per acre. Reno farm agent Don Ingle notes revival in some fields and says heavier rains may revive others. Great Bend reports some fields revived after over three inches of rain in the past week. Farmers in Windom report wheat grew four inches in five days after weekend rains. Some areas beyond saving will be plowed under and planted to other crops once soil dries. The rainfall helps spring crop planting and greening pastures and alfalfa.
