Kansas lawmakers dig in over education and tax plans
Budget leaders from both parties push for across the board cuts and $42.1 million in university cuts, including nearly $20 million to KU and KU Medical Center. Gov Brownback opposes the cuts while House plans would raise the sales tax and reduce head of household and joint deductions, framing a four year phase in of income tax cuts to spur growth. Democrats warn the tax shift hurts the middle class and may worsen the budget gap.
