Lawrence bid bids recreation center comes in under estimate
Lawrence city commissioners reacted with mixed emotions after bids to build the recreation center arrived about 10 million below estimates. The low bid of 10.5 million from Gene Fritzel Construction surprised officials who had seen bids of 18.4 and 20.7 million from architects. Officials cited a competitive market and lack of jobs as factors, while questions arose about why architectural estimates were so far off.
