Fire destroys home. family rebuilds with community aid
Four months after a January 30 blaze at Rt 1 the Kramer family faces a new start in a rebuilt home on the same site. Relatives neighbors and strangers provided clothes food and support as Jim 18 Ed 14 Greg 10 and parents rebuilt after losing all belongings in the fire caused by a faulty furnace. Community generosity followed the early morning incident and helped pull the family through the hardship.

Salvation Army plans kickoff for new gym facility
The Salvation Army announces a $250000 capital fund drive kickoff breakfast at 7 30 a m Wednesday in the Kansas Union Kansas Room. General chair Bill Easton outlines plans to expand Lawrence facilities with a gym and youth elder care spaces as the city grows. The project site is 946 N H Street east of the current building.
