Police shot and killed a suspect in the March 30 Brink’s armored truck robbery in Montreal. Five bandits used an antiaircraft machine gun to seize $2.8 million in cash and Olympic coins.
Kansas University executive vice chancellor Del Shankel said no acting vice chancellor will be named to replace William Balfour unless a search fails by Balfour’s August 15 resignation. A search committee will be formed by midweek to find a replacement.
Washington AP The government ad seeking rental of the CIA spy ship Glomar Explorer drew responses from more than 150 individuals and firms. Most replies come from undersea mining interests, as the ship built for underwater work has prior CIA use including recovering parts of a sunken Soviet submarine.
A demonstration of tracking St Bernards will be held at the Jayhawk Kennel Club meeting at 8:30 p.m. Monday at the Douglas County Fairgrounds. The cop owned and trained by Frank Rhats, a Jackson County deputy sheriff, is one of only two such dogs in the country used for tracking lost children and other tasks. Public invited.
U S Attorney General Edward H Levi considers filing a friend of the court brief with the Supreme Court to support opponents of Boston's desegregation busing plan and to urge reconsideration of the 1971 decision expanding federal power over school desegregation. Levi’s move aligns with Boston Home and School Association while facing internal and political scrutiny amid Ford's GOP primary campaign.
At Lawrence High School a reception for Deadwood Dick opened the play. About 100 attended as Calamity Jane and Wild Bill Hickok figures starred. Final performance at 7:30 tonight in the high school auditorium.
The 495 seniors will graduate this year with five opting out of ceremonies. Graduation events begin with a 7 30 p m ceremony at Kansas University's Memorial Stadium and include honors for 52 seniors. Leslie Rose and Kimberly Riley are chosen as speakers with Colin McGovern delivering the address. The combined orchestra bands and A Cappella Choir will perform as diplomas are awarded by School Board President William Bradley.
Patrick Bolen of Salina Nancy Lane of Russell and Richard Rogers of Topeka were elected to five-year terms on the KU Alumni Association Board of Directors. They will assume office after the year-end commencement meeting of 1975 76 following 17 148 votes cast on 5 716 ballots.
The Douglas County Disaster Siren Warning System will be tested at noon on Monday. If weather is inclement the test will be moved to the following Monday.
