Local teen hurt in morning crash on East 23rd Street
Michelle Knight, 15, critically injured when her car was broadsided by a pickup driven by 29-year-old Curt Ledom at the East 23rd Street and Anderson Road intersection inside the east city limits. Knight was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital and then at KUMC. Ledom was not hospitalized.

Morning Fire Destroys Mobile Home in Lawrence
A morning blaze started by lint and bedding near a water heater damaged the mobile home of Darla Cox and her four children, ages 5 to 9, at 3323 Iowa. Fire crews fought the fire about 30 minutes. the trailer suffered $10,000 in damage. The family stayed with Cox’s parents in Gardner. Cox is a recent, uninsured single mother with a hearing impairment.

KSU Alumni Picnic Planned in Lawrence

Lawrence School Board discusses lighter boundary plan
The Lawrence School Board on Monday considered a revised elementary boundary plan aimed at reducing crowding. It would move about 60 Quail Run students to nearby schools, with roughly 34 from the Iowa and 31st streets area to Wakarusa Valley and about 24 from the Lakecrest area to Sunset Hill, avoiding displacement of other students.
