McNamara Comments on Vietnam War Outlook and Troop Requests

New York AP reports Kennedy themed titles dominate sales with The Torch Is Passed selling over 3.6 million copies via member newspapers and overseas editions. Ledoux Class Members Honored at Scottish Rite Banquet

Escape plots detected at Kansas penitentiary

A Kansas Legislative Council committee reported two escape plots at the state penitentiary were discovered before execution. One plan targeted six to eight life-term inmates, and another involved at least five men, according to the committee on charitable benevolent and penal institutions.

Free Snakes Alarm Edinburg Residents Near Schools

In Edinburg Texas residents faced 10 to 20 hungry rattlesnakes roaming near town schools after 25 to 35 reptiles were released as a joke from a box on Wednesday. A massive snake hunt to 1 am and resumed at dawn killed 15, with over 150 people aiding police, volunteers, and residents using flashlights guns and radios. Roger Miller planned to sell snakes to a Laredo firm for 75 cents a pound and kept them in a wood box in an old car body when the top was pried off and they escaped.

Wunsch Backers Form Committee for Wunsch Campaign

A Lawrence group named Win With Wunsch Committee formed with Travis Glass as chairman to back Sen. Wunsch in the Kansas Republican primary. The committee includes Carl Mingus John McGrew Robert Oyler Jack Miller Larry Flannery and Charles D Stough. Plans include city and county outreach coffees door to door campaigning and a downtown headquarters opening in July to boost Wunsch's nomination bid.

Traffic signal project near 9th Street in Lawrence advances

Plane crash near Las Vegas leaves seven dead and homes damaged

A plane unable to retract landing gear aimed for a desert area near Las Vegas at 1,000 feet before crashing. The Lowry home bore the impact as neighbors aided survivors, with six other houses damaged and initial reports listing seven dead, later amended to include two animal fatalities.

Lawrence man charged with fourth degree manslaughter in fatal crash

A 26 year old Lawrence man Eliseo H Rodriguez faces fourth degree manslaughter charges after a two car crash Tuesday night in DeSoto that killed 60 year old Alvin P Floray and injured 43 year old Helen Honeycutt of Leavenworth. Rodriguez previously arrested with 30 year old Helen Louise Dover for DUI and eluding police. Honeycutt remains in fair condition at the KU Medical Center while Floray's family did not comment. A hold was placed on Rodriguez at the hospital and he is to be arrested upon release.
