Chevrolet Strike Ends in Toledo After Three Weeks
Toledo Ohio May 14 The three week strike at the Chevrolet auto plant ended today with plant officials ordering a return to full speed production. Workers voted 732 to 385 to accept a settlement described as a dirty deal by the strike chairman. The accord provides a four cent hourly wage increase to 44 cents, time and a half pay beyond 48 hours, and safeguards against wage cuts in slack season. A shop committee will be formed and no signed contract was sought. The union and GM officials stated production would resume immediately and about 380000 auto workers formerly idle would return to work.
