Emporia May 12 The Kansas state high school track meet opened at Kansas State Teachers College with warm weather and a fast quarter mile track. A D Holder Marion High School set a new meet record in the 109 yard dash at 9.0 seconds, shaving two tenths from the old mark. Earl Walton Parsons set a javelin mark at 180 feet 11 inches, breaking Oakes Cimarron’s record. Marian Johnson Wichita led the 100 yard dash with a 9.9 seconds, with Feck Liberal second, O Leary Lawrence fourth. Upset in Tax Plan Smoots to Ask New Vote
Washington May 12 AP Senate Democrats upset the Republican 200 million dollar tax reduction plan in the first major test to day restoring to the revenue bill the house provision for a graduated scale of lower tax rates on corporations with incomes of 15 000 and less. The vote on this proposal advanced by Senator Simmons Democrat North Carolina was 40 to 38 with Democrats voting solidly for it while two Republicans Nordbeck and McMasters of South Dakota bolted their party ranks and turned the tide. The provision will add 27 million to the 200 million total reduction allowed under the Republican bid. The routes under the provision are five per cent on corporation incomes of 7 000 and less seven per cent on incomes between 7 000 and 12 000 and nine per cent on income between 12 000 and 15 000. The regular corporation tax is 1344 per cent. Senator Smoot of Utah in charge for the Republican fight announced he would ask another vote on this provision.

Digging Coyotes Near Lawrence Attracts Attention
Ray d Wismer and M C Rabette, tree surgeons and geologists, dug out eight baby coyotes about ten miles northeast of Lawrence and transported them to Lawrence. Four juveniles were seen in a cage at Jacdicke's windows and two at Rock Chalk cafe. The men, surveying earlier, spotted a mother coyote and began digging at dusk. Potter Goes On Trial In First May Term Session
